Following his family to Oahu, he attended the University of Hawaii before transferring to UCLA, where he graduated in 1952. At UCLA, he was affiliated with Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He was a proud Bruin for life. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served for 18 months in North Korea, receiving the Bronze Star for heroic achievement. Upon retirement, Don volunteered extensively as a docent for The Huntington Library as well as the Gene Autry Museum of the American West. He also was a long-time member of the Rotary Club and the Valley Club of San Marino. An avid reader and history buff, Don and Lauragene travelled extensively to Europe, Asia and Australia. In addition to his wife of 60 years, Don is survived by his son Eric (Yukiji) and daughter Karen Swenson Procsal (Dow).
