McALPIN, Donald

Dr. Donald McAlpin, of Altadena, CA, passed away on December 4, 2017.

Don was born on January 25, 1934. He lived for almost his entire life in Altadena and Pasadena. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from UCLA, and his Doctorate from Walden University in Florida.

During a long and distinguished career as both a teacher and counselor at Blair High School, and several other schools in the Pasadena Unified School District, Don directly impacted the lives of thousands of Pasadena area students.

He was an avid sports fan whose favorite teams included the Angels, Rams (he was a season ticket holder for several years), Lakers, Kings, and the UCLA football and basketball teams. Don was also a longtime volunteer at East Altadena Little League and greatly enjoyed coaching, managing, and mentoring young ballplayers. He passed along his love for the game to many, including his own sons.

Don also had a passion for traveling and, after his retirement, was fortunate enough to be able to travel all over the world, and learn about and experience many different countries and cultures.

Don is survived by his wife Judith, daughter Karen (Mark), sons Mark (Jacquie), Kevin (Yamilett), and Rick (Sharon), granddaughters Athena, Kellie, Kaitlyn, and Emily, sister Jean, and brothers-in-law Barry Hagenbuch and Robert Woods. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty.

A service and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 1:00 pm. The service and celebration will be held All Saints Church in Pasadena.
