john baatz Obituary
John Ormonde Baatz
January 16, 1939 – January 22, 2018

John passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones. Born in England, he moved to Canada during WWII with his family. Raised in Montreal, Quebec, he graduated from McGill University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1962, and from Western University with his Master of Business Administration degree (Gold Medalist) in 1966.
John enjoyed a successful executive career in the transportation industry in Canada before moving to California in 1984 for a business opportunity. His Southern California business legacy is family-owned Tow Industries from where he retired in 2006, with ongoing expanded operations that continue to flourish in the very capable hands of his son Mark and a loyal team of dedicated staff.
Renaissance man, world traveler with a keen intellect, he was committed to giving back to his community through volunteer work , most recently having just completed his three year term as President of the Pasadena Museum of History. His passion for old British cars was well known as was his ability to fix just about anything – mechanical ingenuity was a God given gift.
Survived by his beloved wife Helen of 55 years, son Mark (Berta), daughter in law Tracy, daughter Laura (Chris) and three granddaughters Margaux, Tory and Emily, sister Roseanne (Carolyn), Uncle Michael Baatz (Catherine) and many British and Swiss relatives. Predeceased by his parents Rosly and William Baatz and his brother Paul.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday February 9th, 2018 at 11am at the San Marino Community Church. Burial will take place in the family plot at Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal, Quebec in the spring.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers to the Pasadena Museum of History (Pasadenahistory.org) or the Huntington Medical Research Institutes (HMRI.org).
