John "Jack" Dowlin Obituary
1923 - 2012

"Jack", age 89, was born in Hollywood, CA to Una and John Lewis Dowlin. He grew up in Compton graduating from Compton Jr. College. While there he began his baseball career by winning the Helms Award in 1942 as the best 3rd Baseman with a batting average of 270.

He served in WWII as an instructor at the Naval Midshipmen School at Columbia Univ. in NYC. Later he served as navigator on an Attack Transport in the Pacific Theatre with a rank of Lieutenant. Returning to UCLA, Jack continued his baseball career earning the honor of Life Letterman in baseball. Jack taught math at Franklin High for 16 years where he also coached basketball and baseball. Next, he was a math professor at Valley College before retiring in 1987. He resided in Camarillo for 25 years with his wife, Helen, who passed away this past August.

Survivors include his daughters, Jonel Elias of Hawaii, and Sharon Mulick of Newbury Park; sister, Ann Payne of Seal Beach; sons, Steve Nisbet of NYC, Jeff Nisbet of Montana, Gary Nisbet of Massachusetts, and Greg Nisbet of Texas. He leaves eight grandchildren: Kaikea Elias, Hayley, Tim, Katie and Cooper Jack Nisbet, and Gabriel, Hannah and Caleb Mulick.

Services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013, 2:30 p.m., in the chapel of the Conejo Mountain Funeral Cemetery, 2052 Howard Rd., Camarillo, CA 93012 (805-482-1959). Donations may be made to the Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurses Assoc., 325 E. Hillcrest Dr., Ste. 120, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360 (805-495-9655). Their Hospice Nurses took care of both Helen and Jack. Donations may also be made to a in honor of Jack.
