Novak, Kathryn Hempel
February 4, 1925 – June 7, 2018

Kathryn, a proud native of Pasadena, was the youngest of Frank and Hulda (Radig) Hempel's 5 children. She was raised on N. El Molino in the brick house that Frank built for his lively family: William, Marie (Gruettner), Ruth (Snyder), Julila (Mueller), and Kate. She received her education in Pasadena schools: Madison, Washington, and Muir (PCC West Campus).

She met her future husband, Louis A. Novak, at Valparaiso University in the summer of 1943. Their marriage (1946) was blessed with 5 children: Laura (David) Rusch, David (Charlene), Philip (Patricia), Daniel (Geri), and Martha (John) Hoffman. For 40 years, Kathryn and Lou graciously hosted memorable social gatherings for family and friends in their Michillinda Park home. First Lutheran Church in Temple City was also an integral part of the Novak family's life.

Widowed in 1999, Kathryn thoroughly enjoyed the final 13 years of her life with the Westminster Gardens community in Duarte. She will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her commitment to her family, and her ability to maintain an ever-widening circle of friends. In addition to her 5 children and their spouses, Kathryn is survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also mourn her passing. Memorial Service: 11:00 on June 16, at Historic First Lutheran Church, 808 N. Los Robles, Pasadena.
