ATTLEBORO - ALMEIDA, Edward S., 93, of Attleboro, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Blance B. (Poisson) Almeida, and they had been married for 66 years.

Born in Attleboro, MA, he was the son of the late Alfredo S. Almeida and Laurentina (Soares) Almeida. He resided in Attleboro for most of his life.

As part of the "greatest generation," Mr. Almeida honorably and served our country in World War II, in the Army of Occupation in Japan. Mr. Almeida attained the rank of Technician Fourth Grade during his service with the 24th Infantry.

Edward was employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of RI as a Sales representative for 27 years, retiring in 1990, previous to that he worked for the former Sears and Roebuck for many years.

Edward enjoyed golfing, bowling and slow dancing. Those who love him will always remember Ed's ability to talk to anyone and he was also known as a man of his word. If you were in need of help, all you had to do was ask and he would be there. In his younger years, Ed raised and raced pigeons.

In addition to his beloved wife, Blanche, he leaves his son, Richard S. Almeida and his wife Denise of Pawtucket; his daughter, Linda M. Almeida of Attleboro; his one grandchild and five great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Albert Almeida.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Ed's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Friday May 7, 2021 from 9 AM to 10:30 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM in the St. Theresa Church, Baltic Street Attleboro. Committal prayers and full military honors will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd STE 3004, Warwick, RI 02886.
