FRED LELAND COLE Born July 18, 1938. Passed peacefully at home on January 6, 2016 at the age of 77. Fred is survived by his wife, Elke Cole of Colton, California; his brother Larry Cole and his wife Sharon Cole of Redlands; his son, Jeffrey Cole and spouse Patti Cole of Lytle Creek; his son Gregory Cole and spouse Rene Alvarez of Chicago, Illinois and his step-son Mike Townsend and spouse Silvia Townsend, of San Diego. Fred was also a loving grandfather to Bailey and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Fred was pre-deceased by his parents, Dorothy and Ray Cole, his sister, Donna and his step-daughter Michele Townsend. Fred was a devoted Seventh Day Adventist and a Republican, not necessarily in that order. Fred graduated from Loma Linda Academy in 1956. He became a licensed land surveyor and in 1978 proudly founded Cole Surveying with his good friend, Ted Fike. Fred enjoyed his many years as a land surveyor, but no doubt preferred traveling whether it be by car, RV, airplane, or helicopter. He traveled throughout Germany, France, and Italy. Some of his favorite destinations included Las Vegas, Chicago, Tahoe, Napa, San Francisco and San Diego. He loved to share a gourmet meal and a fine bottle of wine with friends and family. Although Fred's spirit passes on to a better place, he will be sorely missed and remembered forever by those of us fortunate to have known him. Fred's memorial service and burial is scheduled for Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary, 24145 Barton Road, Loma Linda, California. Phone: (909) 825-3024

In 1969 I was 19 years old, worked for Ludwig Engineering and work with Fred on the survey crew for the summer. Great experience. Then in the late 1980's worked with him again at McKeever Engineering. Another great experience. Rest in Peace Fred.

My sympathy to the family. As Jesus looked to the Heavenly Father for strength and power in his time of deep sorrow, may you do the same. John 11:39-44

I had the great pleasure to work for Fred in the late 1970's and early 1980's as a chainman on one of his survey crews. We had great times in those days and Fred taught me a lot about surveying and life in general. He will be sorely missed!
