Alma Canada Obituary

ALMA I. CANADA Alma I. Canada, of Homeland, California, Highland Palms Estates, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family Saturday May 4, 2013. Alma was born April 17, 1917 in Hillside, Montana a daughter of the late Gustave and Emilia (Kautz) Gall. Alma was one of 10 children. The family moved to McIntosh, South Dakota around 1933. In 1940 Alma moved to California. On October 4, 1941 she married Linro H. Canada who preceded her in death. Alma and Linro raised their 3 children in Fullerton California. After her husband retired in 1978 the couple moved to Homeland, California. Alma loved her family. She often took trips with her family and friends to visit across the country. When Alma was 80 years old, she took a 26 day tour of Europe with two of her sisters. Alma enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crewel embroidery, quilting, needlepoint, and counted cross-stitch. She was a gifted crafter who took pleasure in making handmade gifts for family and friends. She also donated many handmade items to hospitals and nursing homes. Alma loved to garden, always growing fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers. Roses were her passion. Alma liked to get together with friends and play cards, dominoes, and board games. Alma was a life long member of Church of the Nazarene and attended services and activities at the Hemet church. Many will miss Alma's secret recipe homemade peanut brittle. Alma is survived by her son Dennis (Lucinda) Canada of Port Ludlow, Washington; granddaughter Stacy Canada of Cheyenne, Wyoming; brother Wesley (Betty) Gall, McIntosh, South Dakota; sisters Erna (Mel) Gearhart, Sidney, Ohio, Vi Merrick, De Pere, Wisconsin, Earlene (Martin) Beckman, Kelso, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews. Alma was also preceded in death by son Harlan, daughter Cheryl, her parents and brothers Ivan, Harold, Wilmer, Norman and Earl. Miller-Jones Mortuary in Hemet will be receiving friends & family from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Graveside service to follow at Riverside National Cemetery at 1:00 PM.

I had the pleasure in sitting next to Alma during Easter dinner, at a friend's home. She was so enjoyable to talk to. My heart and prayers go out to her family. She will be missed.
