RAYMOND L. CORRAL
1933-2017
A Mass of Resurrection will be held Fri, Oct 20 at 10 a.m. at St. Frances of Rome for longtime parish member Raymond Corral who went home to the Lord on Fri., Oct 6, 2017. Born Feb. 28, 1933 in Lordsburg, N. Mexico, Ray was the first surviving son of Felix & Maclovia Corral. One of 10 siblings, Ray was the first to graduate from high school. He enlisted in the Navy, serving in the Korean conflict & was a 2nd class petty officer with a honorable discharge. Back stateside, he attended Western New Mexico earning a B.S. and M.S. in educational related fields. He also attended Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. learning ASL & how to read lips.
He married Jeanie in 1962 & the two came to Blythe, CA, where he taught for two years. They moved to Lake Elsinore in 1964 & he taught at Machado, Elsinore Elementary, Elsinore Jr. High and Elsinore High for a 31-year career before retiring. At Elsinore High, Ray coached tennis & became the school's coach with the most winning records in league & CIF competitions during the late 1960's through the 1980's & beyond. One of his female players earned All-American honors; three of his male players became teaching pros.
At St. Frances, he served as a lector, usher & was selected President of the first parish council. He served on three councils, was a charter member of Knights of Columbus; was one of those who helped build the YES Center, taught CCD classes, worked the earliest fiestas & was selected as part of the Papal Honor Guard when Pope John Paul II visited Los Angeles. He actively helped for a decade in the local Unity Parades, driving entries & assisting in parade set-ups.
Ray was a director and president of the "little water company" from 1978-89; was the LEUSD SDO representative for 12 years with the county; & was recognized as one of the 2011 Heros in Education for working with tennis programs at Elsinore, Temescal Canyon & Lakeside High Schools. He & his family hosted 11 foreign exchange students from 1991 thru 2004.
Ray spoke five languages & when traveling abroad always assisted tours groups going to Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Israel, Sweden and England. He enjoyed English friends Roger & Marilyn Strevens & the Bergmanns of Germany.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jeanie; daughters Carmella Reynolds, OK; Helen Bonner, Riverside; Cheyminne Bunke, Riverside; Cwennen Corral, Los Angeles; son Channing Corral, NC; two grandsons, four granddaughters, brothers Manuel, Rudy & Frank of CA; sisters Lila & Teresa of NM, Rita of Los Angeles & Frances of AZ.
A reception will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at Elsinore Woman's Club, 710 W. Graham Ave. after the funeral.
A private burial will be held at Riverside Nat'l Cemetery. Evans-Brown Mortuary, Lake Elsinore is handling the arrangements. EVANS BROWN MORTUARY (951) 674-3141

Sorry for your Loss.I remember Ray when I was growing up in Lake Elsinore & attending High school where he taught & was the tennis Coach . The Bernard Smith Family grew up his family @ St Frances Of Rome .I saw him as a strong Catholic leader/Minister/Father etc,etc.By example"He didn't just talk the talk,he walked the walk".
