Steve Patton Obituary

STEVE RANDALL PATTON Age 60, passed away on Sept. 12, 2012 at Hemet Hospital from complications due to a rare blood disorder/respiratory failure/ pneumonia. The Man - The Myth - The Legend was born to Billy & Laquita Patton on March 10, 1952 in Torrance, CA. At an early age, he began to draw and paint, and those around him knew there was something amazing and special going on. He learned a great work ethic from his parents and began, at age 13, to work with his father in his roofing company. Steve played baseball growing up and was on the gymnastics team during his junior and senior years of high school. The side horse was his specialty. And he was good. He graduated from Narbonne High School in 1970 and went on to attend college, studying art and again, gymnastics. He left college after awhile. Conforming to other people's rules of how art should be expressed was not something he thought highly of. Steve loved cars and sold his '55 T-bird, which he always kicked himself f or doing. He married and had 3 beautiful children with Patricia Luttrell. They moved to Hemet in 1976, after his grand-parents moved here. Shortly thereafter, he started "Patton Roofing Co." He made a name for himself and had a lot of high school kids that grew up working for him. He was cool to work for, but you worked hard. He provided roofing for the McMorran and Iacono family housing tracks for many years and others as well. In the spring of 1984, he met the love of his life, Lena. They had a fairy tale romance and married April 12, 1986. Lena loved his children so much and played a role in raising them. They never had any luck at having their own children, but years later they would learn that their 5 grandchildren more than made up for it. Visiting them in Oregon was something they enjoyed very much. His grandchildren and his children loved him very much. He was "Granddad!" Steve enjoyed construction, landscaping, golfing, and most of all, doing his artwork. He was always the happiest when he was painting or drawing. He produced many, many pieces of incredible art over the years, and was in a couple of art galleries. He should have been a famous artist! He and Lena were restoring a 106 year old cottage that was once owned by Steve's grandparents Earl and Mabel Marical. Lena will continue their dreams of doing just that with the help of "Cast a Shadow" bike club. What a blessing! Steve loved his church "House of Grace", which he and Lena had attended for the past 3 years. One of Steve's greatest pleasures was teaching a men's bible study. It was called "The Fight Club". If you knew Steve, the name fits. He wasn't your typical bible study teacher. Just ask his students. He was tough. He loved them though, and they loved him. Steve and Lena owned a couple of video stores in years past and a comic book store. His most recent favorite past time was "hanging" out at "I.E. Comics" with owners Jamie and Erin who came to love Steve. Mostly what he loved about comics was the incredible artwork and was beginning to create a graphic novel of his own. While battling a rare blood disorder, Steve began to immerse himself in his artwork even more. Since construction became impossible to do, he loved doing his art. Steve was an avid reader and read everything. He was a walking dictionary and may people have expressed to Lena "what will we do now when we want to know something?" You could talk to him about anything. He could mingle with people of all walks of life. He had a love for God and while he did suffer with his disorder, he never complained, seeing that it was meant for a much greater purpose. Psalm 84 became his mantra. Everything about him will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lena Patton; three children, Joshua Patton of Medford, OR, Jeremiah Patton of Portland, OR and Joanna Dance of Medford, OR; five grandchildren: Liam Patton, Noah Patton, Taylor Kessler, Enzo Patton and Leo Patton; a sister, Sherry Kruse of Hemet; and two brothers, Scott Patton of Woodland Hills, and Keith Lord of Carlsbad; an aunt, Shirley Depasse Anderson of Redondo Beach; and an uncle, Buddy Marical of Nuevo, CA. Service will be held Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Bible Fellowship Church, 26835 Columbia St., Hemet, CA (951) 652-8558. A celebration will be held following the service at The Hidden Hacienda, Hemet. Memorial contributions may be made to the Getty Museum. Thank you for all of your prayers! Some of you ask "Why the delay?" Well.....he was an awesome "man" and we need time to plan.......and you'd better be there.
