Al Parker Obituary
AL PARKER, 74, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at home in Astoria, Oregon on June 8, 2016. Al is survived by his wife, Kim Metcalfe; his sister Barbara Jean Wilson; his children, Eric Parker, Deirdre Kirkwood, Michelle Frahm, Tessa Parker, Emily Metcalfe, and Mandi Metcalfe-Parker and his grandchildren, Clay, Helen and Eli. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Judith Lyles and Joanne Butler and two of his daughters, Chrystine Parker and Abigail Metcalfe. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 6, 1941, where he lived until his family moved to California in 1947. He graduated from Arroyo High School in El Monte, CA in 1959 and attended UCLA. After earning his Master's Degree at UCLA, he obtained a position at Riverside City College in 1969, where he taught American History, History of Mexico and Political Science for over 40 years and continued to teach as adjunct faculty after his retirement. He was also faculty advisor to the RCC Ski Club for many years in the 1970's and 1980's, which he enjoyed immensely. He truly loved teaching and built a family of friends through his many years at RCC. All who knew him are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life on September 9, 2016, with a reception at 5:30 P.M. in the Quadrangle and ceremony at 7:00 P.M. in the Digital Library at RCC. PLEASE NOTE THE TIMING CHANGE FROM THE PREVIOUS PRINTING OF THIS NOTICE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Al Parker Memorial Scholarship.
