Alan Matley Obituary
ALAN MATLEY, our beloved Father and Grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2016 at the age of 73. Alan was born on his family's farm in Madison, Wisconsin, the only child of Warren and Alice Matley, on May 13, 1943. He lived in Southern California for 68 years where he raised his own family and enjoyed his days driving truck for Coca Cola and Budweiser. At the age of 37, he suffered his first heart attack and open heart surgery, followed by another 8 years later. In December of 1994, he was given a second chance at life when he was offered a new heart. He had a heart transplant at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. He felt like a walking miracle. After his heart transplant, he went to work as a Cadet for the Montclair Police Department, where he worked for 18 years, before falling ill in 2014. Our dad kept himself busy fishing, playing poker, watching football and tending to his menagerie of animals. His favorite was his long time companion Mr. Peanut, an 8 year old Jack Russel Terrier. He loved being outside and made many memories camping and visiting friends in Oregon on the Rogue River. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Ginger King (Jeremy) and Alicia McGinnis (Ron); 5 granddaughters Rebecca King, Emily King, Rachel King, Allison McGinnis, and Ashley McGinnis. His granddaughters will lovingly remember him as "Papa Horsey". Our dad will always be remembered as a man who worked hard, played hard and lived life to the fullest. He was an amazing father and grandfather. We will miss him everyday. Love you, Dad!!
