Albert Henry Schmidt Obituary
ALBERT HENRY SCHMIDT April 25, 1927 - December 6, 2013 Albert's Trademark Smile and Charm Drew people towards him. His Incredible Talent for Getting Things Done Compelled people to Follow him. He will live in our hearts forever. Albert was 86 when he passed away on December 6, 2013 in Hemet, CA, where he has lived with his wife since 1989. He was born in Baltimore, and grew up at the Odd Fellows Orphanage in Fredrick Maryland. He enlisted in the United States Navy in World War II at age 17. His Orders brought him West to the sunny coast of California, where Albert proudly served in the Seabees. He instantly developed a fondness for the area, and returned here shortly after completing his service. It was here, in California, that Albert met and married the Love of his Life, Betty Jean Weiderhold in 1949. It was love at first sight --That strong everlasting kind of love that endures everything life throws at you. Together they worked hard and raised a beautiful family of 4 loving children. Albert's standards were famously high; he cared about what he did, and did it extremely well. He was at his happiest anytime he was learning something new, and challenging himself. He was devoted to his children and inspired them to do better. Albert was a unique combination of charming and daring. Albert's career was paused for several years after he contracted polio during the 1952 polio epidemic, and although polio had left him partially paralyzed for the rest of his life, his strong character and fortitude always remained the greatest part of who he was. This strength guided Albert to North American Rockwell in Anaheim, CA, where he was Lead Man of the Material Controls department on the Minute Man Rocket project. This was a great role for Albert, and he shined in his leadership position. Albert genuinely cared for people and never once hesitated to help someone in need, even in the face of adversity. He helped and touched the lives of so many people. He will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Betty, his four children; Christian M. Schmidt of Montrose, CO; Justin D. Schmidt of Pico Rivera, CA; Laura Jean Nelson-Newbold of Hemet, CA; and Martin E. Schmidt of Yucca Valley, CA; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. A private family memorial will be held.
