Alfred Dodge (Al) Riggs Jr. Obituary
ALFRED (AL) DODGE RIGGS, JR. Age 94, passed away January 22, 2016 at his home in Jurupa Valley, CA with his wife and children at his bedside. AI was born to Alfred Dodge Riggs, Sr. & Winifred in Grafton, MA on March 18, 1921. AI served as an infantryman in the 26th Division (Yankee Division) from 1938 to 1940 and was a member of both the Army Air Corps/Air Force during World War II, attaining the rank of Captain. AI graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute as a mechanical engineer in 1948. He was employed as an engineer/metallurgist in sales with several forging companies, dealing primarily with aerospace and jet engine customers. AI was a Mason, a member of Franklin Lodge AF & AM, Grafton MA, for 72 years & a member of Aleppo Shriners Temple for 46 years. Upon retirement, he and wife, Jeanie, volunteered with the Riverside Probation Department as Youth Accountability Board investigators. As a couple they volunteered at First Congregational Church with Project Food where they fed the homeless for 8 years. He was an active member of both Magnolia Presbyterian Church and First Congregational Church. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Jean; four children, Alfred D. Riggs, III (Kathy) of Pleasant Grove, UT, Jonathan W. Riggs of Mount Pleasant, MI, Holly G. Riggs (Robert Gragson) of Chico, CA & Joyce R. Baumann (Michael) of Riverside, CA; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. Alfred was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey S. Riggs (Maria Bertone). A viewing will be held at Acheson & Graham Garden of Prayer, 7944 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA 92504 on Monday, February 15, 2016 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Memorial services will be held February 19, 2016 at 1:45pm at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA 92518. Friends and family who would like to pay their respects and remember AI are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Alfred's name to Magnolia Presbyterian Church, 7200 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside 92504 or Project Food, P. 0. Box 1648, Riverside, CA 92502.
