Alphonse "Ken" Kenison Obituary
ALPHONSE "KEN" KENISON, former Upland High School teacher, died July 22, 2014 under hospice care near his home in La Costa, California. He was 79. Ken was born in Galveston, Texas and graduated from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. His first teaching assignment was at McLeansboro Township High School in Illinois. He began his long career in 1958 teaching language arts and sponsoring speech and drama organizations. Upon moving to California, he briefly dabbled in acting and modeling while further developing skills which led to a renowned teaching career. He began teaching at Upland High School in the early 1960's and his career lasted some 25 years. English literature, speech and drama were the subjects he taught with love and passion. Kenison was a formidable bridge player, interior designer, art collector, brilliant grammarian and lover of literature. The world has lost an inspired educator, a mentor to students and a captivating storyteller. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm, October 25, 2014 at the Double Tree: 555 W.
