Antonia Werner Obituary
ANTONIA WERNER, 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015 surrounded by loved ones. Toni, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was born on January 19, 1929 to the late Teodoro and Florinda Esquivel at home near Artesia, NM. A woman of strong convictions and even stronger faith, she was proud to be a military wife and the mother of 6 children. As a long time member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Riverside, Toni volunteered for many years as a Catechist and Lector, was instrumental in starting and running a Soup Kitchen at the Church, and pioneered the E.S.L. (English as a Second Language) program there, for which she won the Volunteer of the Year award in 1990. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Frank, and her eldest son Steve, she is survived by her 6 siblings, Frances Tywoniak (Edward), Susan Molletti (Steve), Severo Esquivel (Cecilia), Nieves Esquivel, I.H.M., Rev. Msgr. John Esquivel, and Ted Esquivel (Karoline); her 5 remaining children Teresa Romano (Dan), Frances Hasterok (Greg), Christina Riley, Richard Werner (Karen) and James Werner; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends who became family. Toni always had a smile on her face, a kind word for everyone, a helping hand extended and a place at the table for anyone who dropped by. Our house was always filled with faith in God, laughter, food, family and friends, and she was the heart of our home. She will be greatly missed by all, but we rejoice that she is reunited with her Lord, and with the love of her life, her beloved Frank. Well done, good and faithful servant There will be a Visitation and Viewing Tuesday, Nov 17 beginning at 4PM at Acheson and Graham Mortuary, with a Rosary at 6PM, followed by a Reception at the Mortuary. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Nov 18 at 10AM at Queen of Angels Catholic Church followed by interment at Riverside National Cemetery.
