Arleen Bailey Obituary
ARLEEN BAILEY Born Arleen Elinor Roberts on April 3, 1924, in Denver, Colorado, daughter of Clifford T. and Genevieve (Guida) Roberts. At five, Arleen and the extended Guida family moved to Los Angeles, led by her intrepid grandmother Antoinette Guida. A Letter Girl, Arleen graduated at 16 from the new Woodrow Wilson High School and soon became an excellent seamstress. In 1943 she married the love of her life, Samuel W. Bailey, and they had 13 children. They celebrated 69 years of marriage until his passing in 2012. A teacher at heart, she schooled all of her children through reading, spelling and math homework, and she was a gifted writer of poems, essays and short stories. Most appreciated by her children, their spouses and her grandchildren were her personalized Christmas letters to each. Looking for her letter in their stockings was the first thing done on Christmas Eve. Pasta fritta was the second. She loved playing Scrabble and family poker and was fiercely competitive at both. Traveling the world with Sam, especially on cruises, highlighted her retirement days. Her smile and her sense of humor will be remembered always. A woman of unconditional love, kindness and grace, Arleen's Catholic faith was the foundation of her life, and importance of family was unquestionably at her core. When her 28 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren are asked about her, family is the associative word. We use this time to unite and to be there for one another, just as she would want. Family gatherings and holiday celebrations will never be the same but will continue in her name. May she rest easy with her husband at her side and her eternal love at ours. Blessed the heavens became on October 26, 2016 when Arleen Elinor Bailey joined it. Arrangements Entrusted to the Care of 9695 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, CA 92503 (951) 785-4071.
