Barbara Ann Roberts-Keys-Stewart Obituary
Barbara Ann Roberts - Keys- Stewart was born August 27, 1941 in Los Angeles, CA, to the parents of Hazel Roberts-Strickland and James Smith. Barbara always considered Malcom Keys as her father as he raised her as a child. Barbara passed away after a long illness on June 26, 2015. Barbara graduated from Poly High School in 1957. Barbara married Milton Harper Sr. and their union produced two children, Kecia Harper and Milton Harper Jr. She lived in many places as her husband, Milton, was in the military. Her daughter was born in Lompoc, California and her son was born in Okinawa, Japan. Therefore, she lived in England, Missouri, Texas and California. In 1980, Barbara obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwestern University of Texas and went on to become a social worker with Riverside and San Bernardino County when she moved back to California. She also worked for the Red Cross. She and Milton divorced after 27 years of marriage. In 1991 Barbara married David Stewart, a long time Riverside resident. They made their home in Riverside, and they remained devoted to each other until her death. Barbara was preceded in death by her fathers, James Smith and Malcom Keys; her aunt Audrey Lee Roberts; her uncle Otis Roberts; her step brothers, Reginald Strickland and Lonnie Harvey. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, David Stewart; her children Kecia Harper-Ihem (Blackman) and Milton Harper Jr.; her mother, Hazel Strickland; her sister Michelle Strickland; her step sister, Sylvia Shanklin; her step daughter, Kim Stewart; her uncle, Dr. Will Roberts (Laura). Barbara is also survived by her grandchildren, Brandi McAdory, Desiree Harper, Toi Harper, Ravi Harper, Hope Ihem and Semaj Stewart, and her nephew, Peter Strickland, and best buddy, Beatrice Steen, along with a number of step children, and a host of relatives and friends. She will be deeply missed. Viewing will be held on July 9, 2015, 4-8 pm; and a Homegoing Celebration Service will be held on July 10, 2015, at 11:00 am, both to be held at Acheson & Graham, 7944 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside, California.
