BARBARA LEE BLUNDEN, 92, long-time resident of Riverside, California, passed away on August 27, 2016. Barbara was born in Hollywood, California to Fred Ray Jeffries and Leota Kathyrn Jeffries on June 20, 1924. Her early life was spent in Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland, and San Francisco. She often spoke of the many happy memories of her childhood in San Francisco. In particular the thrill of walking across the Golden Gate Bridge when it opened in 1937. Upon the death of her father in 1939, the family moved to Riverside where she graduated from Poly High School in 1942. On October 30, 1943 she married Carl Oliver Peterson Jr. in Berkeley, California. During their 20-year marriage, she and Carl had four children, Linda Lee, Nancy Ellen, Carl Oliver III, and Jeffrey Alan. On February 20, 1971 Barbara married Gordon Arthur Blunden. Barbara was committed to supporting the Riverside community. She was a member of the Assistance League and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Riverside Community Hospital for 28 years. She was a lifelong Dodger fan, avid traveler, and enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles in her leisure time. Barbara was preceded in death by Gordon Blunden, who passed away on February 8, 1996. She is survived by her children Linda Rubin, Nancy Harwick (Steve), Carl Peterson (Ann) and Jeffrey Peterson (Melissa); her brother Stanley Ray Jeffries (Marion); her stepchildren Craig Blunden, Gale Kavanaugh, and Carol Blunden; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, her youngest great-granddaughter was born five days prior to her passing. A private, graveside service will be held for Barbara on September 24, 2016 at Olivewood Cemetery. Should friends and family desire, memorial contributions in Barbara's name may be sent to Riverside Community Hospital, Riverside, California.
