Beatrice Bogue Pavitt Shewman Obituary
BEATRICE BOGUE PAVITT SHEWMAN Born May 4, 1915, peacefully passed on January 28, 2013 at the age of 97 with family at her side. Beatrice was a native of Riverside, great granddaughter of John H. Reed, Riverside's first Tree Warden, also instrumental in establishing the Citrus Experiment Station. Beatrice resided at Sierra Vista Assisted Living Center in Victorville, CA close to her daughters, for the last six years where she was loved and cared for by many wonderful caregivers. Mrs. Shewman was a teacher in Riverside Unified School District for 19 years after she received her BA in Education at the University of LaVerne. Bea was active in Local, State and National Retired Teacher Organizations and held offices in all three. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Mu Chapter and many other organizations. Beatrice was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of Riverside where her family's ties to the church predates the turn of the century. Both her parents and all four grandparents (Bogue and Pickett families) were members of the church. Before her move to Victorville, Ca in 2006, Bea was involved in many areas of the church, two of her favorites were teaching church school for 25 years and helping to start the "Circle of Friends" delivering flowers to the ill and shut-ins. In 1979 she was appointed Church Moderator. Beatrice was preceded in death by husbands George R. Pavitt and Charles A. Shewman and her son Raymond L. Pavitt. Beatrice is survived by her daughters Sandra Pavitt Pertungaro (husband Frank) and Linda Pavitt Rozema, both of Victorville, Ca. and 1 stepson Andrew Shewman (wife Susan) of Orcus Island, Wa; 8 grandchildren and their beautiful spouses, 3 great grandchildren and their beautiful spouses and 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Beatrice Shewman's memory to "Project Food" at the First Congregational Church of Riverside at P.O.
