Bernita Mae Merritt Obituary
Bernita Mae Merritt was surrounded by loved ones when she went to be with the Lord on September 15, 2017 after losing her long battle with Alzheimer's. Bernita was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 14, 1925. She was widowed by Reverend Raymond Lockwood after raising two children together and doing ministry work for 35 years including missionary service in Nigeria and West Africa. She served her Lord God faithfully her entire life. Years later, Bernita found love again and married Eldon Lawrence (Larry) Merritt in 1991. They were longtime residents of Sun City, CA where they were known by family as "The Cowboy and the Lady." They lived up to those names until he went on to be with the Lord and reserve a rightful place for her by his side.
She is survived by her daughter Julie Lynn King (Jeff), her grandchildren Tamara, Terry, Tosha, Randy, Ron, Rick, and Robyn, and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands Reverend Raymond Lockwood and Eldon Lawrence (Larry) Merritt, her father, Herbert; her mother Anna; her sisters Violet and Helen, and her daughter Patricia Woods.
