Bette Joyce Cheadle Fender Obituary
BETTE JOYCE CHEADLE FENDER Bette Fender was called to glory on Friday, December 6th, 2013. At the age of 88, she passed away in her home in Highland, CA with family at her side. She was the second of three children born in Rockford, IL to Clarence McCormick Cheadle and Elsie Charlotte Sundgren Cheadle. After a move from Milwaukee, WS to Asheveille, NC, Bette graduated from Burnsville High School in 1941 and attended Brevard College before becoming a medical transcriptionist at Moore General Army Hospital during WWII where she met Gordon Fender, her late husband, an ensign recuperating from an aircraft accident at a naval convalescent hospital in Asheville. Married in 1945, Bette and Gordon were married for 58 years and left a legacy of 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Bette is survived by two brothers, her older brother Robert McCormick Cheadle and wife Ann of Hendersonville, NC and younger brother David Baird Cheadle and wife Mary Alice of Asheville, NC, and her six children, Ronald and wife Roberta of Poway, CA, David of Acworth, GA, Steven and wife Becky of San Marcos, CA, Lesley Brooks Likins and husband Mike of Highland, CA, Richard and wife Laura of Galt, CA, and Geoffrey and wife Kelli of Temecula, CA. A graveside memorial service will be held for family at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma on February 10, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., where she will be interred with her beloved husband.
