Bobby married my "adopted big sister" in 1967”. Dale’s mother and my mother were best friends and as a result of their relationship Dale’s family and my family spent a lot of time together. We were all like brother and sister.
I met Bobby for the first time on December 25th 1966. It was Christmas night and Dale planned to bring her new boyfriend for an introduction. We knew it was British Bobby a disc jockey from a Providence, Rhode Island radio station. He was a celebrity! We were excited. Dale had already shared with my sister that this relationship was special.
Bobby arrived and entertained us all evening. He was worldly, urbane, witty, a masterful story teller and one hell of a nice guy. I was a sixteen year old kid and quite impressed. They were young and in love. It was the sixties. The Beatles and the British Invasion had changed American music. Bobby was part of the scene. We welcomed him into the family.
Dale & Bobby married in May 1967. The wedding was beautiful. Bobby’s mother was an absolute delight. She truly impressed my entire family.
After the wedding Dale & Bobby went to England. They stayed there for eight months and after returning from England Dale & Bobby moved to California.
Over the years there were occasional visits to the West Coast and occasional visits to New England. Life marched on and unfortunately I lost touch with Dale & Bobby.
We reconnected in 1999. Bobby & Dale came to New England for a visit the following year. I visited California. E Mails and cell phones made staying in touch easier.
In the thirty seven years that Bobby and Dale were married I spent only a few days with Bobby. He was special because he married Dale.
I was given a gift. I had the opportunity to spend the last six weeks with Bobby Allen. He entertained me just as he did in December of 1966. We had more in common than I would have ever imagined as that sixteen you old kid in 1966.
He was special from our first meeting because he loved Dale. I only knew him as Dale’s husband. My recent visit afforded me the luxury of spending time with Bobby. He became my friend.
I will miss his stories, his impersonations, his humor, his smile, his knowledge, his warmth, his friendship. I will miss him.

My childhood memories of Bobby include sitting around our pond in Mira Loma, Ca on warm summer nights and him playing Beatle songs while we all sang along. He was always making jokes and having fun no matter the situation.
There are few people in this world that bring laughter and joy to any room that they walk into. Bobby was one of them. His laughter was infectous and his carefree attitude could lighten the darkest of rooms.
