Bronwen Gene Marshall Obituary
BRONWEN GENE MARSHALL of Riverside, CA died on October 25, 2016. She was born on June 11, 1926 in the coastal city of Swansea, Wales to late Anna and William David Davies. She had a fairly normal welsh upbringing until just shy of her 14th birthday when the first bombs of WWII were dropped in Swansea. Luckily Bronwen and her family survived the intermittent bombing that continued on for the next couple of years. In the midst of war Bronwen graduated from high school in 1942. Thanks to her high grades in science, she got a job as a metallurgist analyzing metals for ammunition. In 1943 American soldiers arrived in Swansea just as bombings were easing up. This was the start of Bronwen's storybook romance. Bronwen met her future husband James J. Marshall at a dance that was held weekly in Swansea. Despite James not being much of a dancer and him having to leave for the shores of Normandy, their love survived the awfulness of WWII. The young couple married on June 9, 1945. They lived a life most people these days couldn't even imagine, a life that could be made into a movie. They lived all over the world from Guam to Alaska while having and raising 6 children. Bronwen Gene Marshall was a strong, proud, beautiful, intelligent and resilient women who always did the right thing. She is survived by her late husband, 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Services will be held on Tuesday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Rubidoux Mortuary family chapel, 6091 Mission Blvd, Riverside, CA 92509.
