Byron Carstensen Obituary
BYRON ( BARNEY ) EARL CARSTENSEN 85 years old, and a resident of Riverside, CA since 1965, went to be with his Lord on July 21,2013 following a lengthy illness. Barney was born April 1, 1928 in Amherst, Ohio. After graduation from South Amherst High School class of 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for two years, stationed at Pawtuxet Naval Air Station in Maryland. Upon Discharge from the Navy in 1948, Barney married his sweetheart Carolyn, and returned to his home town of Amherst where he was employed as a carpenter, the work he loved his entire life. In 1959 he and Carolyn attended Mt. Vernon Bible College in Ohio, becoming ordained ministers in the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. In 1963 he moved his family to California and in 1965 made Riverside his home. He was active in the Arlington Foursquare Church for over 20 years, and loved the activities of their "camping group." He worked 22 years in the maintenance department at Riverside Community college from where he retired in February 1988. He attended Magnolia Baptist Church as long as he was able and loved his Lord dearly. Barney is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn, and son Vinson (Zofia), also of Riverside. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as five brothers and 3 sisters. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Barney's name to charity organization of choice. Services will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Crestlawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, 11500 Arlington Ave., Riverside, CA 92505.
