Carolyn Loraine Sherman Obituary
CAROLYN LORAINE SHERMAN Age 65, of Riverside, CA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 5, 2013 while visiting her family in Gilbert, AZ. She was born to the late Shelby Lorain and Vivian Whiting, June 27, 1947 in Ogden, Utah. As a child, Carolyn lived in Syracuse, UT and Clearfield, UT where she grew up. Carolyn graduated from Clearfield High School, and went on to graduate in 1969 with a degree in education from Utah State University in Logan, UT. She later earned a Masters Degree in education from the University of La Verne. Upon graduation from college, Carolyn moved to Riverside, CA for her first teaching job. She was hired by the Jurupa Unified School District and taught kindergarten through sixth grade at three elementary schools: Troth Street, Van Buren, and Sunnyslope. She was a master teacher for Jurupa District; working with student teachers from UC Riverside, Cal State University San Bernardino, and California Baptist University. Carolyn loved being a teacher and continued to teach until retiring in 2005 after 31 years. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students and stayed in contact with many of them. Carolyn was married to John Sherman April 3, 1976 at the Mission Inn Chapel in Riverside, CA, where they have lived for the past 37 years. In December 1977, Carolyn gave birth to her son Trevor. Trevor, an airline pilot, has brought much joy to his mother throughout the years. She loved her family and adored her three grandchildren, Ryan, Ellie, and James. Carolyn would take trips to Arizona to visit with her son Trevor, his wife Shannon, and her three grandchildren. Carolyn was active in the charity organization Assistance League of Riverside. She gave generously of her time and talents to help the children of Riverside and surrounding areas. Carolyn held such positions in the organization as Chairman of College Bound, Grants, and Annual Giving. Carolyn was a member of the LDS church. She loved her two dogs, enjoyed golfing with the Victoria Country Club Women's Golf group, and especially loved riding her Sea Doo on Lake Havasu, Arizona. She is survived by her husband: John Sherman, son: Trevor Sherman, wife Shannon and three grand children Ryan, Ellie, and James. Also, a brother Randy Whiting, of Fruit Heights, Utah, sister Katherine Stucki and husband Lund Stucki of Kingman, Arizona and a sister in law Daisy Galletto, her husband Joe Galletto and their sons August and Reno Galletto. There are many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. She is loved by many and will be missed.
