Caryl Jeanne Thoele Obituary
CARYL JEANNE MARIE THOELE, 85, passed away peacefully to be with our Heavenly Father surrounded by her family on Thursday evening, May 12, 2016. Caryl was born on January 17, 1931 to George and Selma Edstrom in St. Paul, Minnesota; the youngest of four children. Caryl graduated from John Marshall High School in St. Paul in 1949. She met, through mutual friends, her loving husband of almost 62 years, William (Bill) Thoele. They married on December 10, 1954 and had four children. Bill and Caryl moved from the Midwest to Riverside, California in 1965 where they became actively involved in the community and their church, Immanuel Lutheran. Caryl loved to sing with the choir at Immanuel. Over the next fifty plus years Caryl was involved in numerous charity groups including Assistance League, PEO, and several others. Caryl also served as a docent at the Mission Inn for eight years. In their early years Bill and Caryl spent a lot of time camping and boating throughout the Southwest. Later they were fortunate to travel extensively throughout the United States and better part of the world. Upon retirement they split their time between Southern California and Rathdrum, Idaho. During this time, Caryl worked on her tennis game, led hiking tours, took up golf and was an avid walker. Caryl was a terrific cook and was known for her apple pie and cookies. Caryl is survived by her loving husband Bill; son Bill and his wife Stacy; daughter Christine Phillips and her husband Bill; daughter Mary Farrell and her husband Dennis; daughter Jeanne Koepke and her husband Don; six grandchildren, Trevor, Kellie, Michael, Alexander, Paige and Daniel; and many wonderful friends. Caryl's infectious laugh, beautiful smile, continued love and devotion to her family will be missed by all. A memorial service celebrating Caryl's life will be on Saturday, June 4th at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 5455 Alessandro Boulevard, in Riverside, California. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for a donation to the in Caryl's name, www.alz.org, or 1-800-272-3900.
