CHARLES "CHUCK" LOUIS CIAMPOLI, JR.
Chuck passed away at his home in Riverside, CA on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the age of 83. Chuck is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Constance Ciampoli, his brother John "Sonny" Ciampoli, and his sister Betty Lombardo. Chuck is survived by his loving wife Mary (Godbehere) of 37 years, his son David Ciampoli (Debbie), and daughters, Connie McCormick (Eric), Tina White, Alisa Simmons, and Krista Anderson (Jeff).
Chuck, nicknamed "Junie," is lovingly remembered by his brother Louis "Cookie" Ciampoli, and sisters, Barbara Safranek (Kenny) and Joann Baldwin (Gary), along with his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, loving nieces, nephews and other relatives. Arthur Salamone of Long Beach, NY, grew up in the neighborhood with Junie, and remains a lifelong friend, along with his wife Florence and their children.
Charles was born in Manhattan, New York in 1933 and moved to Queens, NY as a young child. He graduated from Long Island City High School (PS-4) in 1951. His enlistment in the Army in 1955 took him to Hawaii and finally to California where he served active duty for 2 years and an additional 4 years in reserves. Chuck continued his education at San Diego City College, earning a degree in Mechanical Drafting and went on to complete the School of Business Administration at the University of Redlands. He worked as an Aerospace Engineer at Rohr Industries, spending many happy years in Toulouse, France before retiring after 35 years of service in 1992. Chuck and Mary spent their retirement years traveling around the world enjoying many dream vacations.
Chuck was a proud member of the Sons of Italy, was an epic story teller, and loved to lead sing alongs with family and friends. He was a master woodworker, and would spend hours in his barn workshop building custom fireplace mantels as family heirloom gifts. He enjoyed sports, especially NY Yankees baseball and boxing, as well as movies, reading and spending time with his family and beloved pets Shadow, Abby, Princess, and Rex.
The visitation will be held on May 22, 2017 at Arlington Mortuary, 9645 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, CA 92503 at 10:00 am followed by prayers and remembrance service from 11:00 to noon. Interment to follow on the same day beginning at 1:00 at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to The Assistance League of Riverside, 3707 Sunnyside Dr, Riverside, CA 92506 would be appreciated.
