RETIRED LIEUTENANT COLONEL CHARLES DAVID "DAVE" JAMES Passed away on Oct. 22, 2012, in Riverside, CA. He was born in Omaha, NE on Feb. 19, 1926, to Ernest and Maria James, following the birth of his only sibling Ernest Jr. Mr. James earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from South Dakota School of Mines in 1951, soon after his marriage to Lois Cowden (1950), and while enlisted in the Air Force reserve. Following his transition to regular, active service in the Air Force, Mr. and Mrs. James started their family, which eventually included 3 children. In 1959, and in association with military support, Mr. James enrolled in and completed (1961) a Master's degree program in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He moved his family to southern California in 1961, with residence in Riverside from 1962-1971. Following his retirement from and serving in the military for 21 years (1969), Mr. James re-entered service to the federal government as a civil engineer at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio, where he completed his professional career in 1987. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golfing. Mr. James also spent many years as a volunteer tour guide at the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson. Mr. and Mrs. James remained in the Dayton area (Fairborn) until 2007, when they returned to Riverside, with residence at Air Force Village West. Mr. James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois; his three children, Diane Swift (George), Charles David James Jr. (Kia), and William James; and two grandchildren. Benjamin James and Hannah James. Burial will be private.
