Charles L. "Chuck" Walker Obituary
CHARLES L. "CHUCK" WALKER, 87, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014, at home with family present. A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2201 N. Phoenix Rd., Medford OR 97504, Saturday, October 25, at 3:30p.m. Charles was born March 4, 1927, in Amarillo, TX., a son of Wylie and Orra Walker. He attended public schools in Wichita, KS, until his family moved to Los Angeles, CA., in August, 1943. In February, 1945, he graduated from Hollywood High School and enlisted in the Navy. In December, 1948, Charles married Vivian Dorothy Rack in Los Angeles, with whom he had three children. Charles earned his B.A. and M.A. in English at California State University at Los Angeles. From 1961-1992 he taught at Riverside California Community College before retirement as Professor Emeritus. He was a faculty leader in RCC's Spring Semester Abroad Programs in England. Survivors include Chuck's wife and partner since 1981, Sarah Kay Walker, Ashland; two sons, Paul Walker of Vancouver, B.C., and Daniel Walker of Santa Barbara,CA; daughter, Marina Walker, San Diego; sister Charlotte Guyaux of Riverside, CA; step daughter Susan Kanclier of Heidelberg, Germany; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William Wylie Walker, Jr. of Wichita, KS; sisters Tracy Washburn of Newberg, OR, and Grace Clark of Yucca Valley, CA., and Ashland, OR. Charles served as a volunteer at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and was an instructor and Council member at OLLI, formerly known as Southern Oregon Learning in Retirement (SOLIR), on the Southern Oregon University Campus in Ashland. Chuck's family wishes to extend enormous gratitude to the wonderful caregivers from All Care and Asante Ashland Home Health Care Hospice & Palliative Care Services.
