Chris Peter Mehlum Obituary
CHRIS PETER MEHLUM, 87, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2014 at his nursing home facility in Thousand Oaks, CA. Chris is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years Clella (Tweedy) Mehlum, as well as daughters Melisse and her husband Dane, Judith (Judy) and her husband Tom, grandchildren Kathleen, Patrick, Joanna, Chris, great grandchild Emilie, and finally faithful canine companion Lola. Chris was born in Hibbing, MN in 1926 and lived there till his graduation from Hibbing High. Following military service with a tour in the Philippines near the end of WWII, Chris went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. Armed with his MIT degree in 1952, Chris took a job with Standard Oil in El Segundo, CA. He and Tweedy married in 1954. Chris worked for Standard Oil (now Chevron) for over 33 years, working his way up the corporate ladder to Refinery Manager - El Segundo, the position he retired from in 1985. After retirement, Chris and Tweedy built their dream house on the Bear Creek Golf Course in Murrieta, CA and lived there happily for over 25 years. Chris served as the first president of the Bear Creek Golf Club. Additionally, given his friendly nature and mechanical background, Chris also took on the role of "Neighborhood Repair Man" in the community. Those who knew Chris will sorely miss his smile, wit and those little things he always seemed to do for them. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the MIT Class of 52' Scholarship Fund, in memory of Chris Mehlum '52. Checks may be payable to MIT and mailed to: Bonny Kellermann '72, Director of Memorial Gifts, 600 Memorial Drive, W98-500, Cambridge, MA 02139. Please be sure to note Chris Mehlum '52 on all donations.
