CIVIA RUTH AARONS COHEN Civia peacefully passed away February 24th in Rancho Palos Verdes from heart failure. Civia touched all those around her with her strength, drive, caring and love. Civia was born in 1925 in Philadelphia to Solomon and Lillian (Neff) Aarons. Civia attended Temple University in 1943 on a scholarship to train women in engineering. In 1952 she met her husband Sidney Cohen and they married in November in Philadelphia. Civia became a mother to Susan in 1956, Arthur in 1958 (lived for 14 days) and Andrew in 1959. In 1967, the family moved to Riverside. Civia joined the Arthritis Foundation in 1973 and became Inland Empire Branch Executive Director earning the CFRE credential. Civia was also active in Temple Beth El and its sisterhood running the catering committee, publishing 2 cookbooks and creating the heritage tablecloths. Civia loved traveling the world and visited 6 continents. Civia and Sidney moved to Rancho Palos Verdes in 2009 and volunteered as a Reading Grandmother. Civia is survived by her husband Sidney, daughter Susan, son-in-law Dennis Esposito, grandsons Matthew and Adam, granddaughter Lauren; son Andy, daughter-in-law Denise, grandsons Alex and Peter, and granddaughters Lianne and Michelle. Memorial services will be held February 28th at Temple Beth El in Riverside at noon. Funeral will take place at the Riverside National Cemetery on March 5th at 9:30 am.
