Clayton C. "Claytie" Record Obituary
CLAYTON C. RECORD "CLAYTIE" Age 63, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2013, in Oceanside, CA, surrounded by devoted family, after complications from a heart attack. Clayton loved life and lived it to the fullest every day. Racing jeeps, duning in Glamis, traveling, mountain biking, camping and spending time with family and friends were his passions. He was revered by people from every walk of life and was immediately friends with all he met. Born and raised in San Jacinto, he was the oldest of five children to valley community leaders Clayton and Ella Mae. While at San Jacinto High School, Claytie was a scholar athlete, excelling in football, baseball and basketball, and holding many school records. He accepted a football scholarship to UCLA and after three years there transferred to University of Redlands, where he graduated with a degree in Business. He thereafter began a long career as owner/operator of his hay trucking business. He was happy to have been inducted into the San Jacinto Athletic Hall of Fame and was most proud of his shop full of trophies and plaques achieved for racing his jeeps throughout the western United States. Claytie leaves behind his longtime sweetheart and wife of 27 years, Michelle; son Clayton and his wife Sara (granddaughter Hazel); daughters Brandi and Shaina; mother Ella Mae; brother Mike (Leslie); brother Randy (Anne); brother Keith; sister Nanci Norman (John); numerous caring nieces and nephews; and we would be remiss not to include his constant canine sidekick, Daisy. Claytie could and would pull pranks, tell stories and deliver jokes continuously like nobody else. His wisdom, charm, infectious smile and contagious laugh were his trademarks. He was an amazing and supportive man to his family and friends, and will be joyfully remembered but sorely missed every day. "Don't let anybody pass ya, racer." A Celebration of His Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to San Jacinto Education Foundation in honor of Clayton C. Record, 2045 S. San Jacinto Ave., San Jacinto, CA 92583. Online condolences may be sent to www.hemetvalleymortuary.com Matthew McWane, Director
