DAISY JANE MITCHELL MAY 27, 1920 - JULY 11, 2013 Daisy Jane Mitchell passed away in Long Beach California on Thursday at age 93 after complications from a fractured hip. Daisy was born in Beebe Arkansas and moved to Riverside with first husband in 1953. Following his death in 1956, Daisy moved to Homewood Court, where she resided until February when she moved to Long Beach to be near her son. As a widow, Daisy returned to school and became a licensed vocational nurse. She worked at Riverside Community Hospital for over 25 years and raised 2 children who had successful careers in medicine and aerospace. Following her retirement, Daisy committed herself to volunteer work for The First Congregational Church and the University of California, Riverside Botanical Gardens. She continued this service until a fractured hip slowed her pace Along with her beloved second husband Jack Mitchell, Daisy presided over Homewood Court. After his passing in 1999, she carried on and became a true Queen of the neighborhood. She would always be the first to greet newcomers on the block. Her genuine concern for the welfare of all her neighbors, along with her unwavering warmth and generosity towards them earned her a place in their hearts. Her holiday neighborhood gatherings on the Fourth of July and Christmas will be long remembered. Daisy is survived by her daughter Sharon of Gothenberg, Sweden, her son Byron of Long Beach and her step-son Brett of Mesa Az. She is also survived by 4 grand children Liv, Moa, Jon and Allison, 5 great-grand children and by her 2 sisters Ethel and Vebina. A memorial and celebration of her remarkable life will be held at 4265 Homewood Court, Riverside from 5:00 - 7:00 on August 31, 2013. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the University of California, Riverside Botanical Gardens in her memory.
