Dale Eugene "Chumley" Trogdon Obituary
DALE EUGENE "CHUMLEY" TROGDON, age 80 years. Born August 31, 1934 in Wasco, CA to Ruby Lee and Herchel Trogdon, Sr. Succumbed to COPD and Asthma December 27, 2014 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Fontana, CA. Dale enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 years, making 3 cruises to the Pacific and Korean War Theatres, completing his enlistment with 30 months in Honolulu, Hawaii. After working various factory jobs in Orange and Riverside Counties, he was hired by the Corona/Norco School District as a school janitor, transferring to the District Maintenance Department he advanced to the District's Lead Welder by the time of his retirement in 1990. In 1965 he married Charlotte Allene Gentry of Corona. Theirs was an exciting life of travel in their RV and searching for treasures with their metal detectors. They found many "treasures" and Dale would, at a teacher's request, present a slide show and display his Treasure Chest, to the elementary school students of the school district. Allene succumbed to lung cancer in 1991. Dale married Mona Trogdon in 1996 and inherited and is survived by 4 daughters; Donna Cullen (John), Kathy Bailey (Jeff), Maryan Rocchi (Frank) and Karan Cullen; as well as 5 grandchildren. His family grew to include 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. He was very proud of his family and delighted in being called "Papa". He is also survived by his sister, Marion Cota of Oregon, as well as many much-loved nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by many long-time friends and fellow treasure seekers. Dale was predeceased by his parents and 2 older brothers, Robert and Herchel Jr. Memorial services will be held Friday, January 16, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. in the Montecito Memorial Chapel, 3520 Washington St., Colton, CA. Inurnment will follow in Montecito Memorial Park, Pastor John Pettit, officiating. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Immanuel Baptist Temple, 45 Michigan St., Riverside, CA 92507. Montecito Memorial Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
