DAVID WILLIAM SCHIPPER (1938 - 2013) March 18, 2013, David W. Schipper passed as a result of a long battle with heart disease. Dave was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, January 20, 1938, to Agnes and Donald Schipper, with an older sister, Susan. After Dave's parents divorced, his mother moved the family to Monterey Park, California, where she worked as an executive secretary. Dave graduated from Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra and enlisted in the US Navy at age 16, turning 17 on the bus to San Diego. He was stationed in the Far East for most of his service, doing air support surveillance. He was honorably discharged in 1963. Dave had a varied work history as purchasing agent, restaurant manager, resort park assistant, chef, tortilla oven sales and advanced industry degrees in the bearing business and computers. On July 4, 1986, Dave became a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he met the love of his life, Joan. They married May 4, 1991 and enjoyed many activities both recreational and being of service. In 1995, after suffering two heart attacks and a quadruple bypass, Dave retired as did Joan. She was a LAPD officer for 27 yrs. Dave was a loving, sensitive, caring spouse to Joan and a sponsor to many in AA. During his almost 27 years of recovery, it became Dave's mission to be helpful to some and harmful to no one. Dave has no living blood relatives. He was predeceased by brother-in-law Leo Fred (Dorothy) Fessenden. He is survived by his wife Joan, his brothers-in-law Richard Neil (Shirley) Fessenden of Sun City and John Kent (Joan) Fessenden of San Juan Capistrano, a large extended family, and his four-legged kids, Metoo and Molly. Dave donated his body to science, and he will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery, Monday, April 29th, 10:00 AM, Area 1.
