Deanne Edna "Dee" Wells Obituary
DEANNE "DEE" EDNA WELLS, 72, passed away in Grand Terrace, CA on June 30, 2014. Dee was born in Wayne, MI on September 12, 1941 and was deafened in infancy. She attended the Lutheran School for the Deaf in Detroit and mainstream public schools. Upon graduation from Wayne High School, Dee attended Gallaudet University, Washington, DC and graduated with a BA degree in 1965. She was a counselor at the NM School for the Deaf in Santa Fe before being hired as the first deaf teacher with the Riverside County Office of Education in 1968. In the late 1970's, Dee obtained her MA from CSU-Northridge. After 20 years with RCOE, she was asked to apply at the California School for the Deaf, Riverside (CSDR) and eventually retired in 2001. Dee was also a part-time ASL instructor at SBVC. Dee is survived by her beloved stepmother, Millie Flowers of Belleville, MI; her dearest friends, Helen Johnson and Edgar "Peter" Peterson of Riverside, Deborah "Deb" Stemwedel of Canyon Lake, and Morton Bayarsky of Riverside. Also special cousins, Dick and Arlene Paul of Manchester, MI and their families and numerous other cousins as well as two stepsisters and a stepbrother. Dee also leaves many wonderful friends, colleagues, and former students. Dee was predeceased by her adopted sister, Debbie Koenig, her father, Lorenzo "Rennie" Wells, her mother, Eva Bauer Kramer and stepfather, Ernie Kramer. The family wants to express their deepest appreciation to Dale Woytek and the Memory Care Unit in Emeritus at Grand Terrace for their loving care and compassion for Dee.
