Donald Leroy Tang Obituary
Born October 1, 1929 in Cooperstown, North Dakota, and passed away on March 26, 2017 in Murrieta, California. He earned his Masters Degree at the University of North Dakota and became a licensed certified public accountant. He worked as a CPA for four years in an investment banking firm until he found his joy in working as a professor at Portland State University for 26 years.
He was an advocate for students and organized a Beta Alpha Psi chapter at Portland State University. He went on to serve as an area councilor and in 1989 / 1990 served as the National President of that organization.
He was also active in the accounting profession and became the first educator to serve as president of the Oregon Society of CPA's. During his tenure as president the Oregon Society of CPA's was formed to give scholarships to outstanding seniors from high school who desired to enter the profession.
Family survivors are his four children, Debra Tang Deines, Dwight Tang, Jon Tang, Jane Tang Gerritsen; and his six stepchildren, Patricia O'Rourke Johnson, Susan O'Rourke Cain, Stephen O'Rourke, Joseph O'Rourke, Nancy O'Rourke Morrison and Michael O'Rourke.
He is also survived by his loving companion of 20 years, Sheila Spradling.
He is proceeded in death by his sisters, Gail, Delores; ex-wife, Sylvia Herberg Tang; and deceased wife Nancy O'Rourke.
Funeral service to be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at
3:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 23800 Washington Ave Murrieta, CA 92562.
It is suggested that any contributions be given to the Portland State University Foundation, Nancy O' Rourke Tang scholarship fund or the Oregon Society of CPA's foundation, Donald L. Tang scholarship fund.
