DONALD LESLIE "LES" MARTIN Donald Leslie "Les" Martin was born on October 26, 1948, in Newburgh, New York. He passed away on November 18, 2015, in Riverside, California, after a courageous battle with cancer. He had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone up until the very end. Never bitter or angry, he accepted his fate and lived every day to the fullest. He will be missed terribly by his wife, Andrea Jones-Martin, who was the benefactor of his incredible love, tenderness, and generosity. He is survived by his son, Christopher Martin; his grandson, Tyler Martin; his granddaughter, Kacee Martin; his brother, Dale Martin; his aunt and uncle Sharon and Bob Hall; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. Les was preceded in death by his mother and father, Eleanor and Donald Martin, his brother, Brent Martin, and his first wife, Coralee Martin. Les graduated from Norte Vista High School in 1966 and served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He received his AA in Accounting from RCC, his BA in Administration from CSUSB, as well as receiving his Certified Purchasing Manager Certificate. He retired from UC Riverside in 2008 as a Purchasing Manager with 32 years of service. Les contributed greatly to the University community, serving on numerous committees and receiving an abundance of awards. After retiring, he served as President of the UCR Retirees Association and was instrumental in having retirees regain some campus privileges. His volunteering included the Riverside Historical Society, Riverside Metropolitan Museum (President and Docent), Heritage House (Docent, Trolley Conductor), Orange Empire Railway Museum. He served as a Board Member for Service Plus Credit Union and as President/Newsletter Editor for the National Association of Purchasing Management. Services will be held on Monday, December 7th, at Pierce Brothers-Crestlawn Memorial Park and Mortuary on Arlington Avenue in Riverside. Viewing will be from 10:00-Noon, service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the greatly appreciated.
