IN LOVING MEMORY DORA LILLIAN jOHNSON SMITH Dora passed away on March 5, 2013, at the age of 94. Dora was born October 24 near Waverly, Nebraska to Peter William Johnson and Lillian Nordstrom Johnson, where she was raised on a farm. She graduated from high school in Lincoln. She then went on to earn her college degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She starting teaching in a one-room school house in Nebraska, and was later working in Denver when she met and married Wylie Arthur Smith in 1943. They enjoyed 66 years happily married. She gave birth to two children, Suzanne Smith Carne in 1945, and Wylie Alan Smith in 1950. She later worked and retired from the California Department of Corrections, Norco, as a teacher. Dora dedicated much of her time to volunteer activities, working with the Girls Scouts for over 10 years, and as a Cub Scout mother, as well as volunteering for many church activities. After moving to Air Force Village West, she continued to volunteer her time, working for the March Air Field Museum, and staying active in the Women's Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Retired Officers' Wives of Riverside. She is survived by her brother Darrel Johnson of Loveland, Colorado, and her son Wylie Alan Smith, as well as three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Wylie, and daughter Suzanne. ` In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the March Air Field Museum.
