DORIS M. BROWNING Age 87, of Henderson, Nevada went to be with The Lord on Nov. 11, 2013 at St. Rose De Lima Hospital after a long bravely fought battle with her illness. She was born Doris Mary Hendricks in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 4, 1926, to Miles and Cecelia Hendricks of Baltimore. She was preceded in death by her longtime companion Joe Mayer of Henderson; her older sister, Grace Ashley of Fort Worth, Texas; her younger brother, Charles Hendricks of Riverside, Calif.; and her husband of 48 years, Ross W. During the late 1940's Doris sang and played the bass fiddle in a three piece jazz group that included her sister, Grace, on drums and vocals. They appeared in show room lounges from Chicago to San Diego. She met her husband while performing at the Castle Air Force Base NCO club, he managed, near Merced, Calif. in 1949. She and her husband owned and operated The Dunes Restaurant nightclub of Riverside, Calif. during the 1960s and '70s. Beginning in 1970, she organized and managed a number of pop music show groups for more than 20 years. She was an accomplished terra-cotta sculptor of people, completing dozens of pieces until arthritis prevented her from continuing. She and her husband moved to Las Vegas in 1978. He died in 1997. She loved The Lord, Life, her Family, and was always excited to go out to a new restaurant to have lunch no matter how she felt. Her passion was always helping the underdog! She is survived by her son, Ross Jr. of Tokyo, Japan and her daughter, Marilyn Dunn of Henderson Nevada. Funeral service will be held at 12pm on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Boulder city, Nevada.
