Doris Marie Payne Obituary
DORIS MARIE PAYNE
Doris Marie Payne, born in Woburn, MA, on June 10, 1923, passed away on November 13, 2017 in Yucaipa, CA. Doris entered the convent in 1941, joining the order of Notre Dame De Namur as Sr. Catherine Roberta, and later as Sr. Doris Marie. Doris taught all levels, from kinder- garten to high school, in Hawaii and California. Doris left the convent in 1969 to care for her mother, and later her sister Christine. Doris enjoyed her years as the school librarian at Aquinas High School in San Bernardino. Doris' glory years were the summers she spent at her beautiful "lighthouse" home in Nova Scotia. In 2002 Doris moved to Sun Lakes in Banning, CA, where she continued to enjoy life, gardening and her dear friends. Doris always looked forward to joining her Sunday morning Mass friends, very front row, at St. Kateri in Beaumont. Who could miss her crotchet beret! As her health began to fail, Doris was lovingly cared for at Wildwood Canyon Villa in Yucaipa.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents Clifford Austin and Katherine Theresa (Maguire) Payne, and her brothers and sisters Katherine (Callahan), William, Marjorie, Robert, Loretta (Campbell) and Christine. Doris leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as dear friends and loving neighbors.
Given Doris' love for animals, appreciation for the tender care from Kindred Hospice, and blessings from her church community, please consider a donation to either of these causes, or to a cause dear to your heart.
Services will be held at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, Beaumont on Monday, November 27, with the Rosary at 10:00am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Burial services will be held on Wednesday, November 29 at 10:00am, Mountain View Cemetery in San Bernardino. Bobbitt Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
