Doris Nash Obituary
Age 84, died in her sleep on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Villa Anne, a loving Board & Care facility in Riverside, CA. She was born August, 16 1933, Hancock County, Illinois to Fredrick (Fred) and Bertha (Betty Garard) Miller and was the oldest of three siblings and her many cousins. The family moved to southern California in 1940 when Doris was 7 years old. She graduated from North Hollywood High School where she met and married John Wesley Nash, at age 17, one semester before her graduation in 1951. Over her lifetime, Doris worked as a clerk and bookkeeper for a variety of organizations including 17 years at Weight Watchers. She also volunteered for an American Cancer Society Thrift Store, and the Los Angeles Fire Department Employee Assistance Program for many years. Doris was proud to be a LAFD wife, and was delighted to be part of the LAFD active and retirement communities. She loved her many friends, animals both wild and domestic, fashion, acquiring collectables, traveling the globe, books, theater, and most importantly taking care of her family. Having moved from the San Fernando Valley in 2001, Doris played an ongoing, invaluable role in the lives of her Riverside grandchildren. Left to honor Doris and remember her love are her devoted husband John of 67 years, her two children Matthew (Carol) Nash, Amy (Marco) Printup-Watkins, and her 4 grandchildren Madeline (Jamie) Nash/Mouton, Clayton Printup, Elizabeth (Joshua) Printup-Hill, and Cooper Printup. Doris was preceded in death by her grandson Mark Nash. She will be remembered for her generosity, sense of adventure and wonderful laugh. The family would like to extend their special gratitude for the staff of Villa Anne, especially Nestor and Wilma for their attentiveness and exceptional care over the last year. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Doris' name to the LAFD Relief Association
