DOROTHY FRASER SMITH Former Riverside resident, Dorothy Fraser Smith, died May 23, 2013 of natural causes at the age of 100 years. She will be interred next to her husband, Major Littleton Kirkpatrick Smith, at Riverside National Cemetery. Dorothy (or Dotty), who was born in Clarksburg, Pennsylvania, lived in Riverside for 46 years. She moved to Loma Linda, CA in 2007. She graduated from the College of Wooster with a degree in Library Science. Then she attended Western Reserved University and attained a Master's Degree in Library Science. During World War II, Dorothy joined the American Red Cross and worked in New Caledonia in 1943 through 1944 as a Red Cross worker. There, she met her future husband, then Marine Capt. Littleton Kirkpatrick Smith. They were married on October 21, 1944 in Rochester, New York. When Major Smith retired from the Marine Corps, he, Dorothy and their three children moved to Riverside, CA in 1961. Dorothy worked as the head resource librarian for the City of Riverside for 11 years. After her retirement, she played golf as a Victoria Club member. She and her husband were also long-time members of Calvary Presbyterian Church. Dorothy traveled the world well into her 80's and performed community service into her 90's. In October of 2012, Dorothy celebrated her 100th birthday. A celebration was held with family and friends coming from Australia, Canada, Virginia, Washington, and Southern California. Dorothy is survived by her son, Littleton Kirkpatrick Smith III (Jane) of Highland, CA; a daughter, Deborah Fraser Smith (Eric) of Mt. Vernon, WA; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Martha (Marlo) Lowber Wetherell. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army.
