Dorothy Susan Ryan Obituary
Dorothy (Sue) Ryan passed February 7, 2017 after a long struggle with Alzheimer dementia. She was born July 9, 1935 to Wallace and Olive Ryan. She was raised in Billings, Montana. Through high school she was involved in many activities including swimming, diving and the marching band as a baton twirler. Anyone who has been to one of her Super Bowl parties can attest that she would break out the baton at half time well into her 70's. It should be noted that she was forever proud of her older brother Jim who served in the U.S. Navy for some 30 years and retired as a captain.
After graduating from high school, she attended nursing school and received her degree as a registered nurse and retained that license for most of her life. She was married to Bob Gibbel for nearly 30 years with whom she had three children, Sheri, Sandy, and Greg. As a family they moved to Hemet, CA in 1970 where they raised the kids until 1985. Sue was involved heavily with the children's school/sports requirements while also acting as the bookkeeper for various family businesses.
Sue especially enjoyed the fellowship of the Hemet and LA bridge groups. Sue can also be remembered for her strong faith and involvement in the rehabilitation of many troubled youths. Sue spent her last years in San Luis Obispo surrounded by family.
Sue is survived by her brother Jim Ryan (Marge); her daughters Sheri Hafer (Tom) and Sandy Beach (Steve), and her son Greg Gibbel (Jossette). Also, her 9 grandchildren: Lucas, Katie, and Ben Hafer, Jessica (Jones), Travis, and Stephanie Cannon, and Ryan, Milia, and Owen Gibbel.
There will be a delayed Memorial Service to help allow all her family to attend. The service will be at 11:00am on April 22nd, 2017 at Atascadero Bible Church.
