Dwight J. Davis Obituary
Age 88, died on March 3, 2017, in Redlands, CA. Dwight was born in La Verne, CA on May 8, 1928, to Honley Dwight Davis and Sadie Belle Barto Davis. He was the oldest of 5 siblings. He was a resident of Riverside, CA for 84 years. Dwight was a 1946 graduate of Riverside Poly High School. In 1948 he married Evangeline Santo. They were married for 51 years until her death in the year 2000. He worked for Millage Bros. Produce and Hunter Douglas Corporation in Riverside, before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952. He served for 2 years during the war in Korea where he was attached to SCARWAF (Special Category Army Reassigned with Air Force), an engineering unit that built airports in South Korea. The Army trained him as a machinist, a vocation that he enjoyed. It became his lifelong career. After the Army, he returned to Riverside to work at Hunter Douglas Aluminum, which eventually became part of Alcan Aluminum and then Luxfer. He retired from Luxfer as a Project Specialist/Machinist in 1993 after a 40-year career.
Dwight enjoyed waterskiing and in an effort to stay in better physical condition year-round for this summer sport, he began riding a bicycle to work at the age of 40. His love of bicycling soon replaced waterskiing as his favorite pastime. He was an almost 50-year member of the Riverside Bicycle Club and he enjoyed both the physical challenges and the friendships that cycling provided.
Dwight was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evangeline "Evie". He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Wong (Dennis) of Redlands, CA and Karen Das (Gerard) of Peyton, CO; five grandchildren, Rachel and Bryan Wong, Ginna, Matthew and Janai Das; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday, March 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery. Any donations in Dwight's memory can be made to the Riverside Bicycle Club or to .
