DWIGHT LEWIS MANUEL, Born in Ajo, AZ. on 1/9/1943, passed away on 3/27/2016 due to breathing complications at Parkview Community Hospital. Dwight was 73 years old at the time of his death and married to Dorine Marie Manuel for 50 years. Dwight lived in Riverside since 1968. Dwight worked for Bell/Pacific Bell for 32 years as a lineman. He retired in 2000. Dwight served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1971. Dwight also attended Riverside City College in the 70's and received his AA degree. He went on to attend California State University at Long Beach. Here he earned his Bachelor's and Masters in Anthropology and Education. While at CSULB Dwight served as the Indian Studies Student Council President and was a leader in the American Indian Studies Dept. He was an activist and role model to many during his attendance at CSULB and continued to be a leader as an alumni member. Dwight was one of the beginning board members for the American Indian Leaders of Today and Tomorrow conference. Dwight served as a member of the NAGPRA-Native American Graves Protection Act. He worked tirelessly on the Puvungna Sacred Sited struggle. In this struggle he fought to see the human remains buried at the Puvugna. Dwight was preceded in death by his sons, Dennis Steven Manuel (1986), Daniel Mills Manuel (2008) and Michael Dwight Manuel (2013), his sister Verona Stewart and brother, Mills Manuel Jr. Dwight is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorine Marie Manuel, his daughter Donna Marie Manuel-Yurcak, his grandchildren Kathryn Marie, Jessica Rae and Matthew Frank, his brothers, Sharon 'Sonny' Manuel and Larry Manuel. In addition, Dwight has many cousins and many more nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service at Arlington Mortuary on April 11 at 4:00.
