1922 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
ELIZABETH NICHOLS PAYNTER March 28, 1922 - September 9, 2013 Our beloved Bettie was the 2nd child born to parents, Roscoe & Mollie Nichols in Hanover, New Hampshire. First born Robert passed away in 1993. After attending local schools, Bettie moved to Boston & received a degree @ its School of Occupational Therapy in 1944. She served her country from 1948-54 in the US Air Force & achieved the rank of captain. She graduated from RCC (1958), UCR (1963), & U of La Verne (Masters 1974). She was a teacher for 25 years in the Alvord Unified School District (Terrace Elementary) where she made a special bond with many Riverside children. She was an enthusiastic member of the Riverside Community Players, Kappa Kappa Iota, UCR Alumni Assoc., California Retired Teachers Assoc., St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, & St. Jude's Rosary Makers. She enjoyed arts & crafts, travel, theater & especially cats. She is survived & will be missed by her nephew, r. mike nichols & his partner, Michael Mazgai; ex husband, Paul Paynter; neighbors: Cheryl & Dayton Gilleland, & Nancy Fowler; special friend & caregiver, Trish Lewis, & many others. The family would like to thank VNA Hospice for the dignity & compassion provided to make Bettie's final passage comfortable. A memorial Rosary/Mass will be held in Riverside on Tuesday, 9/17 at 9:30 AM @ St. Catherine's @ 3680 Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome for the ministry to the elderly @ St. Catherine's or to Living Free Animal Sanctuary in Mountain Center, CA.
