Ella Mae Webb Obituary
ELLA MAE WEBB passed away after a brief illness on September 26, 2015 at Hemet Valley Medical Center. Ella Degroodt was born on May 14th, 1929 to Marian and Carrie Degroodt in Spring Valley, Minnesota. She graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1947 and married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Webb in 1951. They were blessed with six children: four boys, Richard, Joseph (Sue), Jeffery, Cameron (Melissa), and two girls, Heather Black (Jerry), and Piper Harding (John). She was also blessed with 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Ella has been a resident of Hemet since 1973 and was very active in the theatre and music programs at Mt. San Jacinto College and Ramona Hillside Playhouse. She appeared in several plays and musicals at MSJC including, La Boheme, Fiddler on the Roof, and I remember Mama, in which she won an Inland Theatre League award for her role of Mama. She was an avid singer and played several instruments including the autoharp and piano. She also sang in the choir at Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member for 41 years. After raising her children, Ella returned to school and graduated from Cal State San Bernardino in 1988. She then taught kindergarten for the Menifee Elementary School District for five years. After retiring, she was a substitute teacher for Hemet Unified School District. She later served on the board of the Hemet Retired Teacher's Association. Ella loved her Norwegian roots and passed many Norwegian traditions along to her family. She was also a member of the Ramonadalen chapter of the Sons of Norway for many years. Her love of travel sent her many places around the world including Norway, Japan and South Korea. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne in 2002. Services will be on Thursday, October 1st at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church on Columbia Avenue in Hemet. A private burial will follow at Riverside National Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Friends of the Hemet Public Library.
