Elmer Belg Obituary
ELMER ARTHUR BELG On March 6, 2015, Elmer Belg, decorated United States Marine World War II and Korean War veteran, peacefully passed away 18 days before his 95th Birthday. Married to his wife Janet for over 73 years, they were blessed to have son Jim, a UCLA graduate and Army soldier who served in Vietnam, passing away in 2005. Survived by his wife Janet; granddaughters Elizabeth and Kristin Belg; daughter-in-law Barbara Lambe; niece Carol Faber, and nephew Michael Faber, Elmer had a remarkable life. Besides serving his country in two wars, having been awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for being wounded in the Battle of Iwo Jima and a member of the Marine Corps "Chosin Few," Elmer's career included being a long time United States Postal Carrier to the stars in Beverly Hills California. Hollywood "Rat Pack" stars Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin would expect Elmer to place their mail on the kitchen table for their convenience. Janet and Elmer loved to take cruise trips around the world and spent most of 1966 traveling throughout Europe by car. Originally trained as a lithographer, Elmer was a highly skilled craftsman, bowler and skater, meeting Janet at the local roller rink when she was 19 and he 21. His life stories were extremely colorful and funny. We will all miss this beloved American who gave so much to America.
